Over 2,000 participants and their families raced to the ConAgra Foods campus, to take part in the 2009 ConAgra Foods Race for the Kids on the morning of Saturday October 3rd. Youth from 15 area school districts brought their friends and family to join in the many health and fitness-themed games and activities happening across the campus. Students competed in eight heats that were organized by grade level and all of the participants were awarded ribbons for completing this one mile walk/run promoting physical fitness.
Entertainment acts from Elite Cheer, Shannon Barnhart’s Dance Studio and the Loess Country Cloggers performed for Race day guests throughout the morning. A few local celebrities even joined in the fun, including KETV Channel 7 anchors Rob McCartney, Todd Andrews, Brandi Petersen and Nichole Berlie, who served as the event media chairmen as well as newly-elected Omaha Mayor, Jim Suttle and Creighton University Basketball Coach, Dana Altman.
Before the morning was over 20 lucky kids got to ride away on their very own brand new bikes, complete with helmet purchased by ConAgra Foods from Trek Bicycle of Omaha.
In addition to having a fun morning with friends and family, participants of Race for the Kids took away valuable knowledge about the benefits of being physically fit and creative ways that they can continue their own fitness routines at home. As an extra incentive pedometers, donated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska were given out so that participants could better track their fitness progress.
All proceeds made from the event will help support the All Our Kids Program. All Our Kids staff and students would like to give a very special thanks to all the race day sponsors and volunteers for their support and for helping to make ConAgra Foods Race for the Kids, 2009 a huge success!
